Incredibly, our reclaimed teak started its life as a sturdy construction material in Indonesia up to 100 hundreds years ago.
Unfortunately, widespread deforestation crippled the indigenous teak forests of South East Asia, often being stripped bare to fuel the insatiable appetite in Europe and the US for teak furniture.
Our design partner, S2dio, found a niche.
They started producing teak patio furniture from teak salvaged from old houses that were being torn down.
The sense of long history is evident in the recycled wood construction. This special feeling is characterised by visible marks, scratches and almost unnoticeable tiny splits which all meld together to bring a vintage charm to the old classic material.
All of which tell a tale of the teak's previously life...
Interestingly tiny cracks are part of the teak garden furniture's natural fabric and pose no quality concerns.
Another brilliant invention from mother nature is the natural tannins and anti-pesticide agents that are inherent in the teak, these prevent wood rot and make the reclaimed teak maintenance free.
Teak will form a vintage silver patina on the surface as it's exposed to sunlight over time. This is perfectly normal and for some connoisseurs of designer garden furniture is a welcomed transformation which prove the teak's originality.
So now you know what to expect from reclaimed wooden furniture, what kind of designer furniture is available? Well the answer is very little on the high street as most of the larger furniture retailers struggle to source enough volume of reclaimed wood to make it commercially viable for them. Online boutique furniture companies are a great avenue to find some garden furniture options, take a sneak peak below at some of our selections:
The Aruba 8 seater garden dining set is made up of 8 supreme quality hand woven wicker chairs and a glorious chunky recycled teak table.
