Last month we introduced three pieces from our new District Eight Design collection. Our Saigon-based partners are experts in designing and handcrafting industrial inspired furniture using reclaimed materials to create beautiful and highly original pieces. The two stylish dining chairs and the Hardy Entertainment Unit that we unveiled in July were extremely well-received, so we are thrilled to be able to launch the full collection which includes three designer dining sets and three very cool desk lamps. We hope you like them as much as we do!
District Eight Design recently made a three minute short film which gives a brilliant insight into their work, from sourcing vintage machine parts in Ho Chi Minh City, through to melting, 'Tig welding' (a technique honed in the 1940s), expert construction and finally hand-finishing. If you are even remotely interested in furniture design and production (which I have a sneaking suspicion you are, given you are reading our blog) then we highly recommend you have a watch.
Our three new lamps - the latest additions to our expanding lighting range - will add a touch of individuality to any workspace or living area. The ingenious Lab Desk Table Lamp, £99 (above), with a base of hand-blackened steel, has an exposed bulb cleverly connected with a repurposed chemistry clamp.
The Ruskin Desk Table Lamp, £129 (above) has a reclaimed wooden base upcycled from timber roof supports, and a neck of custom-milled blackened steel which holds the bulb. You can select either an exposed mirror bulb or opt for a plain one housed in a hand crafted brass cage. And last, but by no means least, the charming and characterful Gooseneck Table Lamp, £99 (below) has a solid iron base, a multi-directional neck and an adjustable handcrafted bulb cage.
Now for the dining sets! The Mason 8 Seater Dining Set, £1999 (below) comprises eight stunning Mason Dining Chairs, that boast luxurious upholstered leather seats, and the 224cm Kirin Live Edge Dining Table, made from solid fumed oak. The table’s padouk butterfly stitches (seen at the bottom of the page) are a beautiful design detail that contributes additional character and texture to this outstanding dining set.
The Theo Shell 6 Seater Dining Set, £1999 (below), combines a 200cm solid oak table with six Theo Shell Dining Chairs, each with a finely moulded seat and hand-carved oak legs which complement the table perfectly. If however you have your heart set on the Theo Shell Dining Chair but can’t stop thinking about the stunningly sizeable Kirin Live Edge Dining Table, then don’t worry – we’re a step ahead. Why not opt for the Theo Kirin 8 Seater Dining Table Set, £2299 (top), a hybrid that offers the unique detail of the padouk butterfly stitches, the comfort and design of the beautiful bucket chairs and that affords you room to entertain eight guests (or ten if you add a couple of chairs either end).
The dining tables and chairs can also be ordered individually and the full dining furniture collection is available now on the website. We are pleased to offer 20% off all our whole District Eight Design range (including the new dining sets and desk lamps) with the code "D8Design" which is valid until 31st August.
